San Rocco

The first San Rocco celebration began as a two day event in 1925.The patron saint of Patrica, Italy was remembered by the members of the Italian Political Citizens Club with a high mass celebrated at Saint Titus Church by Rev.J.J.Grearey.A procession followed from the church to the streets of Plan 11.Ten years later on August 13, 1935 the celebration became an annual weekend event with the liturgy held on Sunday morning at Saint Titus Church. From the very beginning, the liturgy in church and the procession of the saint were the heart of the celebration. Mass continues to be celebrated at Saint Titus with standing room only. The Festa grew to include music, delicious food, entertainment, rich laughter and family traditions. This year marks the 87th anniversary of the Festa making it the longest continuous ethic celebration in Western Pennsylvania.

Saint Rocco is venerated in the Roman Catholic Church as the protector against the plague and all contagious diseases. August 16, is the feast day of San Rocco.
